Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition where your immune system mistakenly attacks the membranes surrounding your joints, and unlike other forms of Arthritis, tends to be symmetrical (affecting both sides of the body equally). This leads to inflammation, pain, and eventually damage to the affected joints and surrounding tissues. And most importantly, it effing hurts, a LOT.
The symbol on the chest is the alchemical symbol for "Hepar Calcis" or calcium sulfide. While not directly related to bones or joints, it glows red (like inflammation) after being exposed to light for a period of time.
